Waugh McDonald Foundation

The foundation reflects our long-term commitment to responsibility and stewardship.

Its work is guided by patience, discipline and an understanding that meaningful impact takes time.

Waugh McDonald Foundation

The Waugh McDonald Foundation is a charitable initiative established to support long-term opportunity and resilience within communities, with a focus on education, creative development and structured youth engagement in Kenya.

The Foundation sits alongside Waugh McDonald’s broader commitment to responsible leadership and stewardship. It reflects the belief that meaningful impact is created through consistency, local partnership and patient investment rather than short-term programs or one-off interventions.

What we do

The Foundation supports a small number of initiatives that focus on building capability and confidence in children and young people. Our areas of support typically include:

  • Education support
Providing assistance that enables children to access and remain in education. This may include tuition support, school related costs and ongoing engagement with academic progress, alongside informal mentoring where appropriate.

  • Creative development
Supporting access to creative practice as a means of expression, confidence-building and skill development. This is often delivered through existing community-based organisations with established creative spaces and leadership.

  • Structured sport and extracurricular activity
Supporting organised sporting and group activities that encourage discipline, teamwork and physical wellbeing as part of broader personal development.

Partnerships and focus

A key partnership of the Foundation is with the Wajukuu Arts Collective, where we support a combination of academic sponsorship, creative development and sporting activity within a well-established community setting. This partnership reflects the type of work the Foundation seeks to support: locally rooted, thoughtfully governed and capable of delivering long-term benefit.

The Foundation may also support other aligned initiatives over time, where there is a clear need, strong local leadership and scope for sustained engagement.

Our commitment

The Waugh McDonald Foundation is committed to supporting programs that prioritise long-term development over short-term outcomes. We aim to deploy resources carefully, work with trusted partners and remain responsive to evolving needs, while maintaining a clear focus on durability, responsibility and impact.

Foundation Charter

The Waugh McDonald Foundation is structured as a company limited by guarantee, with a commitment to transparency and good governance. Our charter ensures that all resources are directed towards our mission and that members’ contributions are used solely for the Foundation’s objectives.

The Foundation is currently exploring transition to Public Benefit Organisation status to enhance our impact and access to tax exemption, in line with evolving regulations in Kenya.
